Growth rings are a characteristic feature, producing a flame like figure on back sawn boards. Quarter sawn has a distinct ribbon figure.

The is naturally lustrous and ripple marks, characteristics of the timber, that are visible to the naked eye. Rosewood has a persistent and pleasant odor. It is non siliceous.
